TULLE BONNEY

DISTRICT 8

M | he/him | 18 | Reaped

Tulle is the oldest of three kids and while he can be protective of his sisters, he is usually the one who gets into trouble the most. Tulle is a quick-thinker and rather careless when it comes to respecting the law and the Peacekeepers. Because he is aware of what he does when he causes trouble, and due to the fact that he does not like to talk, Tulle does not allow himself to have many friends. When he isn’t working in the factory, Tulle likes to set fires and burn what trash he can find and sometimes, he plays card games.

THE REAPING

Tulle wasn’t even paying attention during the reaping, during the speech the mayor gave or the video that was being played of District Thirteen being bombed. Being eighteen, he had to remain in the back of the large group that was made up of every eligible boy in the district. He was daydreaming, his arms crossed. But time passed too quickly while he was distracted, and somehow he heard his name being called.

Tulle cursed at the top of his lungs when he remembered where he was, and he started cutting through the crowd to get to the front. The teenager was far too pissed off to be scared. In fact, he didn’t think he felt any fear at all.

THE TRIBUTE PARADE

Tulle had never been a fan of crowds, nor a fan of the Capitol until this very moment - while standing on a chariot led by beautiful horses, knowing he looked more gorgeous than said animals. The tribute was waving and giving his best possible smile as he and his district partner were being led around for everyone to see.

Pretending the Capitolites were his own family and having admired how pretty his stylist made him look beforehand were the only things encouraging Tulle to be on his best behavior. The waving and smiling became automatic after a while and as the tribute actually relaxed, the Tribute Parade turned out to be easy for him.

TRAINING

Tulle Bonney received a training score of 3.

Training days

During the first day of training, Tulle didn’t feel comfortable speaking to anyone. He wasn’t just out of his comfort space, but the tribute wasn’t used to being watched like everyone was being watched by the gamemakers. He chose to work at the weapons station first.

Tulle picked up a throwing knife and decided that it was going to be a weapon he would become familiar with before going into the games. He spent half of the time available for training using the throwing knives, wasting his energy by throwing the knives as hard as he could, just to see if he could really do damage to the targets. He decided to eat alone during lunch that day, keeping his head down and not looking at anyone.

On the second day, Tulle chose a different station to work with and found the plant-matching station. He wasn’t any good while trying to identify the plants, but didn’t want to waste all of his time at the station and spent no more than an hour there. After that, the tribute chose to work at the fire-making station. Tulle knew how to make small fires from what he had back in District Eight, but learning to use wood or stones was a different situation. He caught on rather well though, finding that setting fires with rocks and sticks were easy.

However, Tulle only spent an hour there as well before returning to the plant-matching station due to deciding that he wanted to give it another try.

After the allotted tie ended, Tulle decided to sit with his district partner, not liking having to sit alone during lunch. He did, however, choose to only speak with her.

On the last day of training, Tulle returned to the weapons station and immediately started working with the throwing knives again. He spent an hour and a half working with the knives, then decided to choose another weapon he thought he could be useful with and picked out a spear.

The tribute practiced throwing the spear similar to how he threw his knives, not concerning himself with close combat because that would be something he would worry about during the games. Tulle spent the rest of the time in training practicing with his second chosen weapon.

He spent lunch again sitting next to his district partner, unable to bring himself to be social with anyone. It wasn’t anything personal, but that didn’t matter.

Private session

Tulle was relieved when it was his turn to go in front of the gamemakers, so much in fact, that he no longer felt nervous when he entered the Training Center. The only strange thing was that there were no other tributes in the room.

The tribute acknowledged the gamemakers with an awkward glance as he made his way over to the weapons stations. He felt there was nothing that would impress them more than what he had learned to do - since he was no career. Tulle chose to show the gamemakers how well (he hoped) his skill with the knives was, and gathered a few to throw.

Tulle took his place a decent distance away from the targets that were provided and thew one knife after the other, making sure to take his time in between since there was no rush. Afterward, he shot the gamemakers another weird glance and hurried to leave the Training Center.

THE INTERVIEW

Hello, you look dazzling tonight! Tell us about your outfit.

My stylist wanted to make me wear the opposite of what I wore for the parade. She wanted to show that there is "more than one version" of me. Whatever that means.

How do you like being in the Capitol so far? What has been your favorite part?

Everything is perfect here. I was always told there's no such thing as perfection. But that's clearly not true, nothing here is damaged or ugly - it's all beautiful.

Any thoughts about the other tributes? Have you made any friends, or enemies?

The others are pretty cool. I can't comment on whether I've made friends or not.

Do you think you have what it takes to become a victor? Who or what are you fighting for?

I don't know, you'll have to wait until the games are over. There are no traits or skills a tribute needs to have what it takes to be a victor. If that were the case, the current victors would be too similar. Who am I fighting for? Myself. District Eight.

Do you have any expectations for the arena? Perhaps a preferred terrain?

I have no idea. If it's nothing like home, then I guess a forest. Can't go wrong with that.

What do you miss most from your home district? Any shoutouts for anyone back home?

I miss the smells. I miss the smell of the ground, my room, and the chemicals from the factory. I miss the smoke. Nothing smells like the factory here. Everything here smells so nice.

Any last thoughts before we let you go?

I'll probably die during the games, and you’d think I would be scared when I say that. But if they want me to scream and cry for my life, they'll have to force me to. There's no way I can be scared when I know what's coming to me.
