Harvey is the middle child with two brothers; one older and one younger. He works with his parents who own a flower shop and is in charge of helping with sowing and harvesting the plants they grow to sell. When not at work, he can also be found going out on walks around town with his brothers, or spending time with his school friends trying to learn different musical instruments.

THE REAPING

Harvey was looking out into the crowd trying to find his brothers when the district escort called out his younger brother’s name. Before he could think about it, he felt himself saying, “I volunteer!” People looked at him with shock, sadness, and perhaps pity as he stepped forth to take his place up on the stage.

THE TRIBUTE PARADE

As the chariot pulls forward, Harvey feels nervous and unsure of himself. He knows most people in the stands won’t be cheering for him, after all, he is from District 12. Death is almost inevitable. He feels the need to shrink into himself, but instead, he stands tall, puts on his best smile, and waves at the cheering crowd.

TRAINING

Harvey received a training score of 11

TRAINING DAYS

On the first day at the training center Harvey decided to focus on survival skills. Working as a florist had allowed him a lot of knowledge about plants, but if he wanted to survive he would need to do more than know which plants were okay to eat. He spends the day learning how to set up traps, build a shelter, find water, and start and tend a fire.

On the second day Harvey focused on combat. At his job back in District 12 he learned to use tools like the mattock to dig, which he was sure might come in handy if he got a hold of a weapon that was similar so he trained with an axe and swords. He also wanted to focus on hand to hand combat and learned knife skills, thinking that it would be good both for his survival and to fight opponents. His last day was spent going back to stations he had already visited, in order to make sure he retained the skills he had learned in the days prior. He also learned how to tie knots and was content with his mastery of trap setting. Harvey kept to himself and thus did not make any allies during this time.

PRIVATE SESSION

During the private session, Harvey decided to show his strength, the long hours of tilling soil having paid off. He headed towards the axe as it was the most similar to a mattock, and threw at the targets to demonstrate his strength and his accuracy. To further show his accuracy, he also got ahold of some throwing knives to showcase some of knife skills he had learned in training.

INTERVIEW

Caesar: Hello Harvey, you look amazing tonight! Tell us about your outfit.

Harvey: More color coordinated that anything I could have picked out. I did choose this necklace though. As soon as my stylist showed it to me I knew I had to wear it as the flowers on it reminded me of my younger brother, Oleander, whom I volunteered for.

How are you liking the Capitol so far? What’s been your favorite part?

It’s been a good time here. You know, I learned a lot of new skills that I’m sure will come in handy. The fashion here is amazing, I don’t think I could wear so much white back home. The food has been the best thing, to be honest. Have you ever tried a caesar salad, Caesar? They are delicious. I might have to recreate one for the family when I get back home.

What do you think of the other tributes this year? Any friends to speak of, or perhaps, enemies?

I’m sure the other tributes are great, but as far as I know I have no enemies or friends. Which is just as well, since only one of us will make it out.

Do you think you have what it takes to become a victor? Who or what are you fighting for?

Becoming a victor? When I first arrived I didn’t think I would since I come from District 12 and all, but I was pleasantly surprised by my training score so maybe anything is possible after all.

What kind of arena are you hoping for?

Well, back home I worked with my parents who owned a flower shop and I really got to know plants. I think I would feel most comfortable surrounded by plants, and was kind of hoping for a greenhouse, but I just don’t think I’ll be that lucky, Caesar.

What do you miss most from your home district? Any shoutouts for anyone back home?

I definitely miss the smell of the garden back home. The fresh smell of beautifully scented flowers. Most of all, I miss my family. My brothers, Acker and Oleander, and my mom and dad.

Any last thoughts before we let you go?

I might be from District 12, but people shouldn’t give up on me quite yet. I have brute strength and a good brain inside this head. I might just be able to make it out alive
